Midcoast Community Alliance and Bath Youth to Benefit from Generous Bath Elks Lodge #934 Donation and Event

The local Elks Lodge #934 is embracing the work of the Midcoast Community Alliance to create healthy families and happy youth.

The Elks recently made a generous $2000 donation for building improvements to the Bath Youth Meetinghouse & Skatepark, to create an even more welcoming, fun spot for youth. The lodge is also hosting a free “Elktastic Evening of Etiquette” for local middle and high schoolers, grades 6-12, at the Elks’ 9 Lambard Street location, on Saturday May 11th at 5:00 p.m.

Knowing which fork to use for salad and which to use for chicken is nearly a forgotten bit of knowledge in these more informal times. Attendees will learn basic “rules of etiquette,” and be served a five-course meal, with soup, appetizer, salad, a main course and dessert.

Students are asked to RSVP by going to http://e3.rsvpify.com and choosing their entrée preference (chicken, beef, or vegetarian). They will be asked to enter their mailing address so that an official invitation and a primer on etiquette rules can be sent to them before the event.

Dress is “business casual,” and if clothing is needed, students can visit the Clothing Closet at the Bath Skatepark. Visits to the Clothing Closet and any other resource or support received at the teen center is always confidential. The Skatepark is open Monday 2:00-5:00pm Tuesday – Friday from 2:00-7:00 pm, Saturdays 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 pm.

For more information, and for donations of teen clothing or to volunteer to help out at the Elktastic Evening of Etiquette, contact Jamie Dorr at Midcoast Community Alliance 443-6856.

###

Midcoast Community Alliance is using a highly collaborative and mindfully coordinated approach — with other organizations such as RSU1, the Bath Area Family Y, Bath Parks & Recreation, and the Mid Coast Hospital — to deliver critically needed services for youth and families. The goal is to be a suicide-free community, to build strong families and resilient youth.

  • MCA is working to create engaging after-school programs and complete access to community resources, to improve youth problem-solving and coping skills, enhance self-esteem and sense of purpose, and provide meaningful connections.
  • MCA is also working to redevelop the Bath Youth Meetinghouse & Skatepark into a trauma-informed, restorative youth center that supports local students & families.
  • The new center will encourage healthy physical, social, emotional, and academic development.
